What goes around, comes around.
The left has been setting the game rules for decades now as they tell us their policies represent most of the country. They overturn long-established norms for short-term political gain. I remember vividly in 2013 Senator Mitch McConnell warning Senate Majority Harry Reid, that the elimination of the filibuster for judicial appointments would come back to haunt the Democrats. Still, they plowed ahead to jam through their slate of federal judges.
Sure enough, in 2018 when the GOP recaptured the majority, McConnell returned the favor by extending Reid’s new rules to Supreme Court justices, which elevated Neil Gorsuch to the highest court in the land. Of course we heard the predictable Democrat howling over breaking of norms, completely ignoring it was they who changed the game rules. Thanks to the new rules, President Trump was able to appoint an unprecedented 3 justices during his term thereby creating a solid conservative majority on the court. Thanks Harry Reid. What goes around, comes around.
We have seen stark examples of violations of the critical constitutional principle of equal protection under the law. It started with allegations against Presidential candidate Donald Trump that he was colluding with Russia to influence the 2016 election. Those allegations have since been investigated and debunked given the FBI’s primary evidence showing the Steele Dossier that was actually produced by Hillary Clinton’s campaign and sold to their sympathizers at the FBI and the DOJ who ran with it like an Olympic sprinter. A 3 year-long investigation and impeachment of then President Trump revealed no crimes and exposed the brazen attempts to weaponize our justice system against a political opponent. That weaponization continues with the “lawfare” prosecution of candidate Trump on ridiculous charges that twist the law and break decades long legal norms to silence him and therefore influence the 2024 election.
Ironically, in contrast to one of the case against Trump alleging illegal possession of presidential records, President Biden was also investigated by special prosecutor Robert Hur who showed evidence that Biden had illegally retained classified documents as both a Senator and as Vice President, a privilege only a President has. Biden kept some of these documents at the Penn Biden Center, part of the University of Pennsylvania, an institution that raked in over $54 million from Chinese government from 2014-2019. Hmm…nothing to see there. Then Hur’s report detailed how Biden had in fact shared verbatim excerpts from these classified documents with his biographer. Amazingly, special prosecutor Hur declined to bring charges because President Biden was an "elderly man with a poor memory." But Biden is healthy enough to run for President? Can you say, “equal justice under the law?”
It’s ironic that Mr. Trump’s popularity has increased across a broad range of demographics as the public gets to witness this travesty in real time. Now readers of this blog know that I am no fan of Donald Trump. I voted for the Libertarian ticket 2016 and was a Nikki Haley supporter during the 2024 GOP primaries. With Trump leading in all the major swing states, the Dems are panicking and pulling out all the stops. In writing this article, I was doing some research on Joe Biden’s classified documents investigation and could find only articles written by MSNBC, PBS, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, and other demonstrably left-leaning media, all of which bent over backwards to excuse Biden. I couldn’t find any articles from media like the Wall St Journal with competing assessments of the facts, until after clicking “More Results” two more times. Documents released by Elon Musk when he acquired Twitter, show that the FBI had field offices at Twitter, Google and Facebook in an effort to suppress the Hunter Biden Laptop scandal as “Russian disinformation” during the 2020 election. Under pressure from the facts after the election, the FBI subsequently admitted the laptop was real. No matter. Mission accomplished.
I know that this dangerous new set of game rules ushered in the by the Democrats and their media and institutional sympathizers, will come back to haunt them, probably sooner than later. In fact, the recent protests of the war in Gaza at elite college campuses across the country, is evidence that the haunting may have already begun. The Democrats have long nurtured radical elements of their ruling coalition in our schools, starting with the teachers unions in nearly every US public school and ending with universities where liberal professors outnumber conservatives 11-1. Is it any wonder these kids support a murderous, racist, misogynist, homophobic regime like Hamas over Israel, a democratic society with a 3,000-year history of oppression and genocide against it? For those of you that have questions about this statement, please refer to my last post, Israel Against the World, for a in-depth review of the situation with my friend and retired US Diplomat, David Hunter.
This is what happens to a ruling party that has lost its way and has no principles other than to keep itself in power. The ends quickly justify the means, but eventually the bill comes due on unsustainable promises that have been made by so few to so many. The Biden-Obama-Clinton machine now must thread the needle between two essential elements of its ruling coalition: Jewish folks and young college educated folks. Supporting Israel alienates one and supporting Hamas alienates the other. We are already seeing wealthy Jewish Democrats stop their donations to these elite universities while the student supporters of Palestine are threatening to punish Democrats at the ballot box in November. The Germans have a word for this: Schadenfreude.
So once again we are witnessing a US President change important national policy in real-time because of radical left-wing protests. Regardless of whether that policy change is good for our country or hurts a long-standing ally whose country was invaded by a terrorist group that raped and killed 1200 of its citizens. It’s all about the politics. Once again, we’ve seen how what the left cannot get from the ballot box, it gets from intimidation and ignoring the rule of law under the banner of free speech. Most voters see this for what it is. Why bother voting when you can scream and get what you want?
In my fantasy world, I imagine the power of millions of common sense Americans protesting in Washington DC and in the streets against a government that is failing in its most important mission: to keep its citizens safe.
I imagine the power of millions protesting the middle-class breaking inflation induced by unsustainable federal government spending on a myriad of things that neither work nor are in the long-term public interest.
I imagine the power of millions protesting a wide-open southern border that is importing crime, drugs, terrorists and millions of new non-citizens on our public dole.
I imagine the power of millions protesting the divisive and toxic principles of Critical Race Theory and Diversity Equity and Inclusion that has infected our schools, businesses, media, science, government and our military.
I imagine the power of millions protesting a radical climate agenda whose goal to outlaw fossil fuels will usher in an era of rolling blackouts, rampant inflation, and weakened national security, all with no demonstrable effect on climate change, but a big demonstrable decrease in living standards, and a big demonstrable increase in the power of the federal government.
The good news is that all these grievances are supported by a plurality of voters. Which makes sense given that America has been a middle-right country for decades. The long-standing Gallup poll of American’s Political Ideology, shows that only 25% of the nation identify as liberal while 73% identify as conservative or moderate. So why have the policies of the Democrat Party swung so far to the left? I think it’s because history has shown that a very loud and violent minority can subdue an otherwise sensible majority. All the communist revolutions including in Russia, China, North Korea and Cuba were accomplished by tiny groups of dedicated, well-organized fanatics who used all the authoritarian tools of the trade: coercion, disinformation, arbitrary justice against opponents, and violence.
Conservative folks are moderate by nature. We don’t want to invade your life and force you to adopt our ideas. Even with overturning of Roe v. Wade that liberals like to cite as an example of the authoritarianism of the right, the Supreme Court sent the issue back to the states where the people can decide by electing a government that fits their values. Authoritarians consolidate power, not redistribute it. Conservatives believe our brilliant constitutional republic, with all its warts, has done more to raise the living standard of its citizens than any other system of government or empire in history. We seek the preservation of freedom of speech and individual liberty and small government, but we have a generous heart and support a sustainable version of the common good. We are willing to send our sons and daughters to fight to protect all of us, regardless of political leanings. We believe in rational course corrections at the ballot box when warranted. Mostly, we just want to live and let live as much as possible. We believe the union is worth saving, worth “conserving.”
I wish the country had better choices for leadership in November but here we are. However, when you look at their policies and track record in office, Trump and Biden are not equally bad. Millions of citizens are comparing life under Trump and life under Biden. I am voting against the current version of the Democrat party because I see their policies in action, no matter what their media allies try to sell us. The majority of their policies are out of step with “we the people.” I hope it’s a landslide and the grievances on my list above are quickly addressed, through legislative action if possible, and executive order if necessary. I hope the Democrats engage in some much-needed political hygiene to purge its small but loud radical caucus, just as the Republicans have been trying to do for several years now. If you need anymore evidence of this just look at the anti-Trump GOP caucus that ran candidates against the former President, and the GOP Speaker of the House Mike Johnson stiff-arming his Marjory Taylor Green caucus by recently passing important military spending and retaining his job with Democrat support.
America has been through rough patches in the past and I am confident it will course correct though this perilous time. However, if political parties continue changing the game rules for their partisan advantage, the course correction will be much more painful, because what goes around comes around.
